Who is NICK JAVAS?
MC. Lyricist. Entertainer. Entrepreneur. Any one of these terms can be used to describe different members of the hip-hop community. But in this day and age, there are few that can live up to the weight of all these words; and New Jersey native Nick Javas is one of them.
The young entertainer exploded onto the hip-hop scene with a sound so original that you’ll feel like you’re taking in a breath of fresh air. With poetic verses blending everything from heartfelt life experience to comedic prose, Nick Javas has been capturing the attention of audiences and critics worldwide.
Nick Javas was born and raised in Union, NJ where he got his first taste of super stardom as an all-star athlete in both football and baseball. While at Rutgers University, Nick was on the path to fulfilling one of his childhood dreams of playing in the NFL. But when a devastating knee-injury cut Nick's football dreams short, he found strength and inspiration where he least expected it: through hip-hop. Using writing as a therapeutic outlet, Nick noticed his words naturally flowed in rhyme, and after some convincing he decided to take his pen and pad into the booth….from there the talent was evident.
It was a combination of Nick’s ability to spit rhymes along with his confidence and charisma that caught the attention of the legendary DJ Premier. It wasn’t long before Premier decided that the fiery kid from New Jersey was the missing link to his new label and Nick was signed to Year Round Records.
Nick released two singles with Premier; “Not a Game”, which parallels basketball and life, and the clever “Opportunity Knocks”, which documents his meeting and initial impression to DJ Premier. Both tracks stormed the underground hip-hop world and Javas quickly became a name in the game.
Nick then made his acting debut in the comedy “American Loser” opposite Sean William Scott and then a cameo appearance in the HBO pilot for “Flight of the Conchords”.
Over the course of the next two years, Nick toured the world with DJ Premier, captivating audiences with his performance energy, lyrical creativity, and natural charm in nearly 40 countries covering every continent of the world. From Australia, to Asia, to Europe, to Brooklyn, Nick has established himself as one the top newcomers in the rap game.
After returning from tour in the summer of 2010, just days before the opening game of the NFL season, Nick decided that he wanted to take his talents back to his football roots in an original project. That idea then became the viral hit “NFL Rhyme Reel : Hosted by Nick Javas”, a hip-hop based NFL recap show that blends skits, pop-culture, and celebrity appearances narrated by Javas’ lyrical flow.
The premiere episode of “RR” debuted at about 1,000 YouTube views. 16 Weeks later it had become legendary.
“NFL Rhyme Reel” was featured on hundreds of football blogs and websites, dozens of other comedy and hip-hop sites including “WorldStarHipHop” and “Funny or Die”, and appeared as a segment on ESPN’s "SportsNation", the fastest growing show in the ESPN family of networks.
By NFL Playoff time Nick signed a deal with Pepsi and Cornerstone Promotions to create a spin-off entitled the “Pepsi Max NFL Audible” which premiered during the 2-Minute warning of the Jets/Colts WildCard Playoff game in front of a television audience of 28 million! He then appeared on “Audible” throughout the Playoffs and Super Bowl with artists Talib Kweli, B.o.B, Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, Far East Movement, and Snoop Dogg.
In the summer of 2011, Nick executive produced a full-length summer mix tape entitled, "DETOUR," as a prequel to his much anticipated album, "Destination Unknown." But by the end of the summer, Nick had parted ways with Year Round Records when his contract expired, leaving his long-awaited debut album still hanging in the balance.
But Opportunity Knocked once again when the NFL and Pepsi would call on Javas to write and star in a new version of the "Pepsi Max NFL Audible". This project, the "Pepsi Max NFL Rookie Audible", came as a season-long weekly series to appear on NFL.com, showcasing Nick's unique ability to transform his love of the game into an "audible" highlight reel.
New music, new videos, and new comedy skits all to be released soon, give Nick an opportunity to take his fans on a ride through his life's journey, riddled with struggles, adversity, and comic relief as he ultimately fulfills his personal legend.
